Kristall Kellerei — Namibia's First Commercial Winery

An unlikely but genuine find: Namibia’s first commercial winery, 4km from Omaruru town on the D2328. Kristall Kellerei was established in 1990 — the year of independence — with its first harvest in 1995. The winery produces Colombard and Ruby Cabernet from 4 hectares under vine, fermented in imported French oak barrels. Guided tours of the cellar and winemaking process, followed by an intimate tasting session. A unique talking point on any Namibia itinerary — proof that wine is possible in the Namib.
