The Erongo Mountains harbour one of the highest concentrations of San (Bushman) rock art in Namibia — over 200 sites recorded, with some paintings estimated to be 2,000 years old. The best access is through Ai-Aiba Lodge (49km from Omaruru), which has professional guides trained in San art interpretation. The Erongo Mountain Nature Conservancy covers 200,000 hectares across 29 private farms and is critical habitat for leopard, mountain zebra, klipspringer, kudu, cheetah and over 200 bird species — many endemic or near-endemic to Namibia.
