Adjacent to the Quiver Tree Forest, the Giant’s Playground is a surreal field of massive dolerite boulders stacked in precariously balanced formations — as if an enormous child arranged them in a game of desert Jenga. The dolerite is 160 million years old, intruded as molten rock through the older sediment and then exposed by millions of years of erosion. Walk through the rock maze at dusk when the boulders glow orange against the sky.
