A dense forest of over 200 quiver trees (Aloe dichotoma) 14km northeast of Keetmanshoop — one of the most photographed landscapes in Namibia. These are not trees but giant aloes, living up to 300 years and perfectly adapted to the harsh Karoo desert. The San people hollowed out the branches to make quivers for their arrows — hence the name. Dawn and dusk are the magic hours: the golden light on the silver-green trunks against a deep blue sky is extraordinary. Combined with the adjacent Giant’s Playground, this is a half-day excursion that rewards any camera.
