Established in 1951, the Swakopmund Museum is Namibia’s largest privately run museum — an ambitious collection covering the country’s natural history, cultural heritage, colonial era and geological wonders. Exhibits include San artefacts, colonial-period weapons and uniforms, natural history dioramas, and a comprehensive mineralogy display. Well organised and genuinely informative — a useful 2-hour orientation to Namibia’s layered history before venturing inland.
