Swakopmund’s most iconic landmark: a 300-metre iron pier extending into the South Atlantic, built between 1904–1911 by a team of 60 German Eisenbahn-baukompagnie workers. The pier offers exposed Atlantic views, is popular with walkers and anglers, and hosts the Jetty 1905 Restaurant at its end — with glass panels in the floor looking straight down into the sea. Free to walk; the experience of looking back at the colonial town from the end of the jetty, with the Namib Desert behind it, is one of Namibia’s great views.
