Lüderitz is one of the most extraordinary architectural time capsules in Africa. The diamond boom of 1908–1914 funded an entire German Art Nouveau and Wilhelmine-style town — Jugendstil buildings, decorative gabled facades, German railway station — on the Namibian Atlantic coast. Walking the streets feels like stepping into a Bavarian town that was then transplanted to the edge of the Namib desert. Self-guided or with local guides.
