The Zambezi Region (formerly Caprivi Strip) is Namibia’s northeastern arm — a 450km-long corridor between Angola and Zambia to the north and Botswana to the south, terminating at the precise point where Namibia, Botswana, Zambia and Zimbabwe meet. Four of Africa’s great rivers — the Okavango, Kwando/Linyanti, Chobe and Zambezi — all flow through or border the region, creating one of the continent’s richest freshwater ecosystems. The entire strip is essentially one enormous wildlife corridor, forming part of KAZA (Kavango-Zambezi Transfrontier Conservation Area — the world’s largest transfrontier park at 520,000 km²). Bwabwata, Mudumu and Nkasa Rupara national parks are all here, along with a string of outstanding private lodges on the four rivers. Best May–October.
