The Walvis Bay Museum (housed within the town library) documents the town’s layered history: its unusual status as a British exclave surrounded by German South West Africa until 1994, the Benguela whaling era, pre-colonial Topnaar Nama occupation, and Namibian independence. Exhibits include maritime artefacts, natural history displays, fishing industry history and archaeological finds from the surrounding coast and desert.
