One of Namibia’s most informative regional museums, founded in 1975. Three main collections make it worth at least an hour: the Mining Room documents Tsumeb’s extraordinary copper mine (operational 1907–1996), the World War I Room displays cannons and weaponry recovered by divers from Otjikoto Lake — dumped there by German soldiers after their defeat — and the Ethnology Room covers the traditions of the Owambo, Herero and Himba peoples. The Tsumeb mine itself was one of the world’s most mineralogically diverse deposits: 217 minerals have been documented from a single ore pipe, 55 of them found nowhere else on earth.
