Rosh Pinah is a company town built around its zinc and lead mine, one of the most important mineral deposits in southern Africa. The Rosh Pinah mine has operated since the 1960s. Combined with the nearby Skorpion Zinc Mine (the eighth-largest zinc mine in the world, opened 2001), this is the heart of Namibia’s southern mining belt. The Geo Centre offers the best context for understanding the geological story behind both operations.
