Housed in the original German Schutztruppe (colonial police) fort built in 1896, Grootfontein Museum is one of the better-preserved German colonial fort museums in Namibia. Exhibits cover military relics, colonial-era artifacts, pioneer farming history, and the cultural history of the Hai||om San and other communities of the region. The fort itself — whitewashed walls, crenellated parapets, shaded inner courtyard — is architecturally compelling.
