Eenhana is the capital of the Ohangwena Region and one of the most distinctive towns in northern Namibia — almost entirely surrounded by indigenous forest and mahangu fields, earning it the nickname ‘the Green Side’. The Ohangwena Region is one of the most densely populated in the country, its communities deeply rooted in Oshiwambo culture and subsistence farming. Eenhana has fuel, a small hospital and basic services. It sits close to the Angolan border and is the administrative hub for a region that saw heavy fighting during the Namibian War of Independence — that history is marked at the Eenhana Memorial Shrine.
