A dramatic extinct volcanic crater 75km northwest of Keetmanshoop — one of the most distinctive landforms in southern Namibia. The 600m rim rises abruptly from the flat Karoo plains and is visible for 50km in every direction. A hiking trail leads to the crater rim. The crater was used as a solar research station by the Smithsonian Institution in the 1920s and 30s. Day trip from Keetmanshoop on the C98.
